State Public Health Laboratory

About Us

The Mississippi State Public Health Laboratory is a bureau within the Mississippi State Department of Health. The Laboratory has been in existence since 1910 and in its present location since 1959. The laboratory is staffed with 82 employees and processes more than 600,000 clinical and environmental specimens each year.

The Mississippi Public Health Laboratory remains open and ready to serve the public.

Recently, an procedural technicality in the CLIA testing process has presented some questions concerning the lab's CLIA certification for the next two years.

The agency plans to take all steps to preserve the laboratory's certification. If necessary, the agency is also prepared to offer alternative solutions to ensure uninterrupted laboratory testing for the state.
