Air Ambulance Service Licensing

Licensure as an air ambulance service shall only be granted to a person or entity that directs and controls the integrated activities of both the medical and aviation components.

License requirements and waivers: No organization may operate an air ambulance unless such organization has a valid license issued by the Office of EMS and Acute Care Systems (OEMSACS). Licensure requirements may be waived in the unfortunate event of declared disasters, MCI's or ESF-8 responses.

Applications: Any person desiring to provide air ambulance services shall, prior to operations, obtain a license form OEMSACS. Applications will be accepted through the Public Portal account. If you do not have a portal account, please contact EMS.Support@msdh.ms.gov for assistance.

Permits: Prior to operation as an air ambulance, the applicant shall obtain a permit for each aircraft it uses to provide its service.

Service provision: Each licensee shall be able to provide air ambulance service within 90 days after receipt of its license to operate as an air ambulance from the licensing authority.

Regulatory conformity: Each aircraft configured for patient transport shall meet the structural, equipment and supply requirements set forth in the Mississippi EMS Laws, Rules, and Regulations.

FAA certification: An air ambulance license is dependent on, and concurrent with, proper FAA certification of the aircraft operator(s) to conduct operations under the applicable parts of the Federal Aviation Regulations.

Accreditation: Current, full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) or equivalent program will be accepted by OEMSACS as compliance with the requirements set forth.

Multiple states: Any provider that maintains bases of operation in more than one state's jurisdiction shall be licensed at each base by authority having jurisdiction.

License Suspension and Revocation

A provider's license will be suspended or revoked for failure to comply with the requirements of the Mississippi EMS Laws, Rules, and Regulations.

No licensee shall operate a service if their license has been suspended or revoked.
