The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and its partners are offering training in BodyWorks, a new program designed to help parents and caregivers of girls ages nine to 13 improve family eating and activity habits.

Participants completing the six-hour training session will go on to teach parents and other caregivers in their own communities ways to help young girls prevent obesity and maintain a healthy weight.

Health educators at the state, community or health system level, community and church leaders, school nurses, Girl Scout leaders, worksite wellness program coordinators and others interested in becoming BodyWorks trainers should make plans to attend.

There are three sessions available: January 31, February 19 and March 25. All training sessions will be held at the MSDH Central Office, located at 570 East Woodrow Wilson Drive, Jackson, MS. BodyWorks training is free, but seating is limited and registration is required. Register online at www.HealthyMS.com: click "events" and then "BodyWorks."

Training is also being planned for north and south Mississippi. MSDH will announce the dates and times of these training sessions as they become available.
