Replicating the Appalachian Cancer Control Forum

Purpose: To encourage greater communication and activity between state Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalitions and Appalachian communities.

Funds are available to state Comprehensive Cancer Care Coalitions to conduct forums in the Appalachian regions of their state to discuss special regional cancer issues. Grants funds may be used to replicate the successful forum process used in October 2007 that involved Appalachian community best practices and state comprehensive cancer care coalition representatives.

Up to $5,000 is available to support the costs of a forum. Eight grants are still available.

Eligible applicants are limited to state comprehensive cancer control coalitions state Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalitions as recognized by the CDC or regional coalitions with support from the statewide coalitions. Statewide or Appalachian cancer partner organizations may submit applications on behalf of state coalitions for the project.

There is no application deadline.

Applications will be reviewed as they are submitted. All grant supported forum activities must be completed by December 31, 2008.

Funds to support these activities are provided through an interagency agreement between the Appalachian Regional Commission and the Division of Comprehensive Cancer Control of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The grant offering is being managed by East Tennessee State University.
