Living Will (Advance Directive for Health Care) Many people worry about being kept on life support artificially when they have no quality of life
left. The old Living will statute has been repealed. The current statute is the Patient Self Determination
Act. This act authorizes a Power of Attorney for Health Care which allows another person to act for you in
health care decisions when you are unable to act for yourself.

Organ Donation Organ donation allows families to continue the gift of life on behalf of their
loved one. Most hospitals and the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency can provide information.
Death certificates Death certificates are usually provided by funeral directors at the request of families.
Certificates can also be obtained directly from the Vital Records Office. For a death which occurred in another state, write to
the Vital Records Office in that state.
