Social work
is an integral part of our public health system in Mississippi. Social workers with the Mississippi State Department of Health
work in a variety of positions throughout the state: county health departments, community agencies, schools and nursing homes.
Services: Social workers contribute to:
Education — regarding health and human services issues.
Advocacy — on the client's behalf with systems within and outside of the Department of Health.
Consultation — with other professional staff.
Community organization — to address services and social problems affecting your health.
Psychosocial counseling — to overcome personal and relationship barriers.
Case management — to coordinate services and care for clients.
