- Dozens of Mississippi women died each year from cervical cancer.

Your risk of getting cervical cancer is higher if:
- You have a history of sexually-transmitted diseases.
- You smoke.
- You eat a high-fat diet.
- You have multiple sex partners.
- You have sexual intercourse at an early age.
Cervical cancer is preventable.
- Cervical cancer develops slowly and has no obvious symptoms.
- Getting a yearly Pap test is essential for all women in order to detect the disease early enough for treatment.
- High-risk women should have a Pap test once a year. Pap tests detect early changes to the cervix that may be signs of cervical cancer.
- All women should have a Pap test performed within three years of becoming sexually active, or by the age of 21.
