EHDI 1-3-6 Goals
MS statute mandates hearing screenings for all newborns
NOTE: Children at risk for late-onset hearing loss are tracked for later follow-up
If the child does not pass both ears simultaneously on the 2nd or optional 3rd screen, the child is referred to an audiologist (or ENT) for a diagnostic exam
If hearing loss is confirmed, the child is referred to the Mississippi First Steps EIP and the family will be provided access to appropriate early intervention services

On July 23rd, 2018, Baby's First Test and the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) hosted an educational webinar about the status of newborn hearing screening in the United States. Dr. Karl White, Director of NCHAM, led this discussion and provided an update on their work as the National Technical Resource Center for all state-based EHDI programs in the U.S. - EI Snapshot: Early Intervention for Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing: Systematic Nationwide Analysis of Program Strengths, Hurdles, Opportunities and Trends
This report published by NCHAM presents the results of a multi-method study conducted from 2016-2017 to evaluate the broader early intervention system for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing in the United States.
