Mississippi Department of Health Issues Emergency Medical Services Operating Funds to Claiborne County
December 11, 2006

The Mississippi Department of Health's (MDH) Bureau of Emergency Medical Services has awarded $5,373 in Emergency Medical Service Operating Funds (EMSOF) to Claiborne County. These awarded funds will go toward improvements in emergency medical services in Claiborne County.

The EMSOF was established in 1982 through legislation that added $5.00 to fines assessed statewide on hazardous moving traffic violations. The funds are then distributed on a per-capita basis to eligible governmental units (cities, counties, Emergency Medical Services districts) to enhance local level emergency medical services support.

MDH's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services makes disbursements annually after submission and approval of each governmental entity's application. By law, these distributions must be used in addition to existing annual emergency medical services budgets of the governmental units.
