| Mississippi Department of Health Recognizes Staff and Citizens of State as “Public Health Heroes” |
November 18, 2005 — On November 21, “Public Health Thank You Day,” the Mississippi Department of Health (MDH) would like to take the opportunity to applaud those Mississippians who contribute to the health and safety of our state every day.
Countless ordinary Mississippians made a difference in the health of their own lives and others this year by participating in health screening events around the state, staying informed about the latest health findings, and working together in rebuilding their communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
These citizens worked with thousands of MDH staff members, including dedicated public health nurses, environmentalists, district health educators, and emergency responders to make Mississippi a healthy, secure place to live.
State Health Officer Dr. Brian Amy described these Mississippians as public health heroes.
“It takes the contributions of all Mississippians, both the public we serve and our employees, to ensure a bright and healthy future for our state,” said Dr. Amy. “It is the effort and dedication of these individuals that mark them as heroes. I commend their efforts.”
