Meningococcal Disease

Meningococcal disease is a rare cause of meningitis, a bacterial infection and swelling of the brain and spinal cord which can result in permanent brain damage and death. It can also cause cause a serious blood infection, meningococcemia, which can result in loss of toes, fingers, limbs. Meningococcal infection is characterized by fever ,headache, stiff neck, nausea and rash.
